Ukraine’s President, Volodimir Zelenski, stated for Fox News that Donald Trump agreed to grant Kiev a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine. According to Zelenski, this will allow the country to reduce its dependence on American stocks. “We had a very good meeting with President Trump. He agreed to grant us licenses,” Zelenski said.
The White House has not yet officially confirmed the agreement. The parties had previously discussed this possibility on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Turkey.
“I believe we will make this agreement. We will give you a license to produce Patriot missiles,” Trump declared after his last meeting with Zelenski.
Patriot interceptor missiles are considered essential for defense against Russian ballistic missiles and attacks on energy infrastructure.
According to Zelenski, Ukraine’s stocks of such missiles are extremely low. Production of Patriot interceptors is limited. RTX (formerly Raytheon) produces approximately 500 Patriot PAC-3 MSE interceptors annually. However, this capacity is insufficient due to the high demands of the Pentagon and US allies.
