The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has declared his willingness to organize a referendum on the future of Donbas, which the Kremlin, with the support of the USA, is asking to be ceded to Russia to ensure a peace agreement.
“The people of Ukraine will answer this question. Either through elections or a referendum, the position of the Ukrainian people must be present,” Zelensky stated, according to Bloomberg.
According to him, the USA proposes the creation of a “special economic zone” in Donbas without the presence of Russian troops. “The American side sees Ukrainian troops withdrawing from Donbas, and the compromise seems to be that Russian troops do not enter this territory. I do not know who will govern this territory, which they already call a “free economic zone” or “demilitarized zone”,” Zelensky stated.
