The President of Ukraine has revealed his personal income for the first time since the beginning of the war with Russia, as part of his efforts to increase transparency within his government.

Volodymyr Zelensky, published his wealth statement for 2021 and 2022 on Sunday, showing that the income of the leader of Kiev has decreased, according to The Kyiv Independent.

According to data from the Ukrainian presidency’s website, the family’s money flow has decreased by 1.8 million hryvnias in 2022 compared to 2021, or $47,500.

The Zelensky family earned $285,198 in 2021, although almost $141,278 of that amount came from the sale of treasury bonds. Their income in 2021 was almost $314,827 less than in 2020.

Zelensky’s statement attributed the lower income in 2022 to frozen rental contracts due to Russia’s offensive in Ukraine.

According to the statement, in 2021, Zelensky completed the registration process for 22 trademarks, which he had started “long before being elected president.” The full statement lists several dozen trademarks.

The number of apartments, vehicles, and other assets of Zelensky has not changed. According to his statement, there are seven apartment registrations and two vehicle registrations, a Range Rover and a Mercedes.

Although Ukrainian officials have been allowed to not disclose sensitive personal information, Zelensky has made efforts to make them declare their assets publicly. Increasing transparency and combating corruption are necessary for his country to ensure continuous financial aid from its Western allies, even though funds of over $100 billion are blocked due to political maneuvers in the US and EU, Bloomberg writes.

Zelensky earned much more before entering politics, when he was an actor and ran a large production company.
