A drone was found on Wednesday morning, August 26, on Kabakum beach, near Varna, Bulgaria, and the area was preventively isolated by teams from the Border Police and the Navy. The unmanned device was discovered by people on the beach and was subsequently secured for transport to the Naval Base in Varna.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Defense announced that the drone did not contain explosives. A specialized team from the Navy examined the device, which is approximately two meters in length and about 1.5 meters in width, before it was removed from the beach for further checks.
The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Varna also announced that fragments of a second drone were found on Pasha Dere beach. The drone recovered from Kabakum was not loaded with explosives and was to be transported for examination, while the remains found at Pasha Dere were to be, in turn, picked up and analyzed, according to Novinite.
So far, the authorities have not provided official information regarding the origin or model of the drone found at Kabakum, nor about the circumstances in which it ended up in the sea. It has not been established whether the separate incidents on the Bulgarian coast of the Black Sea are related or if the devices come from the same source and had the same purpose.
Several drones discovered in recent days on the Bulgarian coast
The latest discovery comes after several similar incidents recorded in recent days. On August 22, the Bulgarian Navy intervened following two reports. Fragments of a drone were found on the coast between Albena and Kranevo, and another object identified as components of a drone was washed ashore in the Rakitnika area, near Varna.
In the first case, military specialists determined that the device was a decoy drone and that it did not contain explosives.
