The decision to ban access to social networks for children in Moldova, who are up to 16 years old, will be made by the end of 2026. The Minister of Education announced on TVR Moldova that teachers, psychologists, and parents will be consulted.

Dan Perciun believes that the debate is between educating the population about the danger of social media and banning such platforms for minors.

“I believe that during this year the arguments will be formulated by all parties and we will make a decision towards the end of 2026.

I tend to believe that it’s good to protect children from certain risks and education is certainly important. We need to explain, to have this dialogue, but we, as a species, unfortunately, often lean towards what is attractive even if it does not serve our long-term interests and then, as we do in the case of other dangerous behaviors, maybe it’s time to regulate”, declared Perciun.

Several European states want to impose bans on minors’ access to social media. At the end of 2025, Australia became the first state to implement the measure, and Spain is set to put similar regulations in place.
