The Russian separatist enclaves, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Georgia, have issued a joint statement calling on the international community to recognize them as “independent states”. The message was conveyed on June 11, on the eve of Russia Day.
The three unrecognized regions have labeled the Russian Federation, which is currently waging war against Ukraine, as the “guarantor of peace and security” in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.
Vitalii Ignatiev, Oleg Bartsits, and Ahsar Djioev – the leaders of the institutions responsible for the “foreign policy” of Transnistria, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia held a meeting in a video conference format, reports newsmaker.md. Subsequently, they issued a joint statement.
“We make an urgent appeal to the international community to respect the sovereign rights of the peoples of Abkhazia, Transnistria, and South Ossetia, and to support the recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, and the Republic of South Ossetia as independent states,” the document states.
Ignatiev, Bartsits and Dzhioiev also mentioned that the three unrecognized regions intend to strengthen their cooperation and relations with the Russian Federation, without specifying how they will do so.
