The Kremlin regime has begun to install anti-aircraft defense systems on the Moscow ring road, fearing attacks from the Ukrainians, reports The Moscow Times, citing the local source Supernova+. Photographs from the places where the systems have appeared were published by the cited source, but without further details.
The deployment of new systems is taking place against the backdrop of an intensification, in recent times, of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian regions, including Moscow. Thus, from the evening of July 6 until the morning of July 7, the anti-aircraft defense forces intercepted 430 Ukrainian drones heading towards the capital, stated Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
According to the Russian foreign ministry, in total, 452 drones were shot down in a single night over 16 regions and Crimea annexed by Russia. During the attack, the Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Sheremetyevo airports operated with restrictions, while the Zhukovsky airport was closed.
The previous record for the number of drones heading towards Moscow was set on the night of June 18, when, according to Russian authorities, the anti-aircraft defense forces shot down 194 devices. At that time, the Moscow oil refinery located in Kapotnia was hit, which, according to some Reuters sources, ceased its operations until 2027 after the attack. The Sadovod and Belaia Dacia shopping centers were also affected.
