How can Trump’s attitude towards Putin be interpreted, according to a former Polish president

Through the prism of appearing conciliatory towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, American President Donald Trump may seem to some as a “traitor” to the Ukrainian cause, but he could just as well prove to be an “exceptional” leader, determined to avoid nuclear hell, declared Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Walesa in an interview with AFP on Monday, according to Agerpres.

“Apparently, today, he seems to be Russia’s lackey, a traitor pure and simple. It’s one way to see things,” emphasizes Walesa, co-founder of the Solidarnosc (Solidarity) union and former Polish president, now 82 years old. His comments come on the eve of the four-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On the other hand, the American president could be “an extremely intelligent political leader” who “knows that if the United States were to join the anti-Putin chorus, (Vladimir) Putin would have no choice but to resort to the atomic weapon,” said the former Polish president.

“Putin is irresponsible. It’s a very cunning, very intelligent game. Don’t push Putin to use nuclear weapons, play the friend!”, he argues.

By doing so, Trump buys time and forces “Europe to organize against Putin, without the USA. Because if the United States enters the game, it will be nuclear war,” predicts the man whose fight for the democratization of Poland contributed to the fall of the Iron Curtain.

“There are, therefore, two ways to see things: traitor or extremely intelligent man. So far, I still don’t know which of the two applies in Trump’s case,” concluded Walesa.
