Ukraine is consistently advancing towards the goal set by its military leadership: to inflict irreversible losses on the Russian army at a pace faster than Moscow’s ability to recruit new soldiers. As a result, Russian generals have begun to send not only infantrymen into battle, but also personnel from logistical support structures, according to a report by the Institute for the Study of War.
According to ISW, in the Liman direction, the Russian army uses supply service workers, technicians, and other employees who are not part of the infantry in attacks, as it does not have enough soldiers to support offensive operations.
The information was also communicated by the commander of a Ukrainian brigade defending this area. Russian forces have been trying to conquer the city of Liman since February 2024. The locality is considered one of the most important railway hubs in Donbas.
The Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mihail Fedorov, previously stated that the goal is to neutralize approximately 50,000 Russian soldiers per month.
According to estimates presented by the Ukrainian authorities, in recent months the number of Russian soldiers killed or seriously injured on the front — between 30,000 and 35,000 monthly — would exceed that of the new conscripts recruited by the Russian army.
According to the calculations of German expert Janis Kluge, based on Russia’s budgetary expenses, in the first quarter of the year, 71,216 people signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense. This means less than 23,740 recruits per month or approximately 800 per day.
