A new military technology developed by Ukraine could change the way drones are combated on the battlefield. In recently emerged images, the weapon appears to emit a spherical light, but in reality, it is a directed beam that neutralizes drones by cutting their control cables.
Ukrainian journalist Andrii Țaplienko published images showing the use of this experimental weapon in combat. The footage shows a beam, similar to a laser, cutting the fiber optic cables used by Russian forces to control so-called “standby drones”.
The moment the cable is cut, the drone instantly loses its connection with the operator, thus being neutralized without needing to be physically destroyed.
Optical effect: the beam looks like a sphere on camera
According to Țaplienko, the images were filmed by a Russian military drone, and the camera angle creates an unusual appearance of the beam.
In the footage, it looks like a spherical light, but in reality, the beam is directed from above towards the fiber optic cable and does not pass through it.
This impression is the result of an optical illusion generated by perspective and light reflections, which make the energy pulse appear as a sphere.
