The Italian Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, warned on Thursday that “it is estimated that there are hundreds of latent Iranian cells worldwide, people who seem normal, but who can be activated at any moment to commit terrorist acts”.
“At this moment, direct attacks against Italy committed by Iran or its allies, such as Hezbollah, are not being considered”, the minister stated in an interview given to RTL 102.5 radio station.
However, he warned that the issue for Italy “and for all those who are not involved in the conflict is terrorism” and he appreciated that “this crisis will not end in the next few weeks”, reports Agerpres.
Crosetto expressed his belief that “the United States thought that beheading the regime in Tehran would be enough to create the conditions that would bring about a change in the Iranian leadership, but now they realize that Iran’s preset reaction is to unleash chaos”.
The Italian Minister of Defense also explained on Wednesday evening, in a televised show, that in the Strait of Hormuz “a European fleet would be perceived as a NATO fleet, therefore, as a fleet going to war alongside the United States and Israel”.
Therefore, Crosetto emphasized that Italy’s position is that there needs to be a fleet “flying the UN flag”.
