The Polish special services are preparing for potential Russian sabotage operations aimed at exacerbating tensions between Poles and Ukrainians, said Tomasz Siemoniak, the minister responsible for special services, on RMF FM radio station on Wednesday, reports Reuters.
The relations between Poland and Ukraine have deteriorated following the decision of President Karol Nawrocki to strip Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski of the highest state distinction of Poland, as a result of a dispute over the naming of a Ukrainian army unit after some insurgents accused of massacring Poles during the Second World War.
Siemoniak stated that Russia’s informational war against Poland has intensified in recent weeks, with trolls and bots attempting to amplify disputes and influence Poland’s online space.
“The dream of Russia, the dream of the Russian secret services, has been and remains to create the greatest possible tension between Poland and Ukraine”, Siemoniak declared.
When asked about the possibility of a challenge from Russia, including an attack against Ukrainians in Poland, which could further inflame tensions, Siemoniak stated that such scenarios are entirely plausible.
