Moldova could start its own production of drones and jamming systems. The announcement was made by President Maia Sandu during an interview given to journalist Nicolae Chichu.

The head of state specified that the authorities are working on strengthening the defense capabilities against aerial threats, with legislative changes to be made that will also allow the involvement of the private sector and foreign investors in this industry.

At the same time, the president warned that the Russian Federation is intensifying its hybrid war in the region.

“We need to strengthen our anti-drone system and jamming system. These are two elements that are being worked on. We need to start producing anti-drones, drones that can intercept and shoot down other drones. I have asked the Government, especially in the context of recent events, to prepare for changes in legislation because, on one hand, the state needs to produce these drones or anti-drones, but on the other hand, we also need to allow the private sector,” mentioned the head of state, cited by Moldova 1.

The President did not rule out the possibility that the state may also request Ukraine’s expertise in the development of this defense industry.
