The authorities in Chisinau actively collaborate with European states in electoral periods, offering support in identifying and combating disinformation and destabilization campaigns associated with the Kremlin.

The message sent from Chisinau, as it emerges from a material published by Politico, is that the experience gained in combating Russian interference is not just a burden, but a resource that can be capitalized at a European level.

Journalists note that Moldovan officials have begun to actively collaborate with other European states in electoral periods, offering support in identifying and combating disinformation and destabilization campaigns associated with the Kremlin.

Clearly, Moldova is no longer just a state within the range of Russian pressure, but is trying to become an actor that actively contributes to European democratic resilience.

According to Politico, in recent years, Moldova has been one of the European countries most exposed to Russian interference, especially in the electoral context, according to independentnews.ro. Influence campaigns have included a mix of tactics, misinformation in the media and on social networks, funding of pro-Russian political actors, and the use of informal networks to mobilize protests.

This reality is deeply analyzed by the Foreign Policy Centre, which emphasizes that Moldova has become a “laboratory”, a reactor, for modern methods of election interference. According to the source, the Kremlin has tested here a wide range of hybrid tools, including the manipulation of identity narratives, the exploitation of economic vulnerabilities, and the use of local actors to amplify messages.

These tactics are not isolated, but are part of a coherent strategy of influence, intended to weaken the pro-European orientation of the country and to maintain a high degree of political instability.

In the face of these pressures, the Moldovan authorities were forced to quickly develop defense mechanisms. According to the Foreign Policy Centre, one of the most important elements of this response was inter-institutional coordination. State institutions, from electoral authorities to security services, began to collaborate more closely to identify and counter threats.

According to a statement by the European Parliament, Moldova is recognized for its pro-EU commitment and efforts to strengthen democracy, despite external pressures.

The statement highlights the fact that the administration in Chisinau has made significant progress in reforms and in aligning with European values, while also underlining the importance of ongoing support from the Union. Implicitly, this support is also linked to the recognition of Moldova’s role in combating Russian influence in the region.
